MOTO-OIL MATTERS - WHICH OIL IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Moto-Oil.co.uk: Oil Change Checklist
Is it time to change your oil?
Lots of people forget about the oil in their car – it’s out of sight, out of mind. The problem is, failing to keep your oil in tip-top condition can cause engine wear and permanent damage.
The best way to establish when your car needs an oil change is to look carefully in the driver’s handbook – it will tell you how often the oil needs changing in there. Some cars have oil monitors as part of the dashboard computer too. If you’ve lost the handbook and you don’t have an oil monitor function on the trip computer, a quick internet search is always a good idea – or you can call us for advice!
Find out what you’re getting
Oil is oil is oil, right? Well, no – not exactly. Things like the brand, viscosity and performance rating all matter – putting the wrong oil in your car can seriously harm performance and even damage the engine. Make sure you find out exactly what you’re getting before the oil is poured into your car if you’re not doing it yourself.
If you are doing it yourself, you can rest assured that our oils are exactly what they say on the tin. We stock the biggest and best brands at the lowest prices.
Has your oil filter been changed too?
Simply changing the oil in your car isn’t good enough, it’s important that your oil filter is changed too. The good news is that it’s not a massive task – most garages include it in the cost of their oil changes. If you’re buying the components to do it yourself, simply look in the car’s handbook for the model number of the filter the engine requires.
Did you get a receipt?
It’s really important for you to get a receipt when you have your car’s engine oil changed. On the receipt it should detail the exact oil that was poured into your car’s engine. If the oil on the receipt doesn’t match what you asked for, make sure you bring it up with the garage owner right away!
Always enquire before your oil change to see whether a receipt will be made available. If a garage doesn’t offer receipts, drive away and find another one.
Plan your next oil change well in advance
Once you’ve gone through the hassle of having your oil changed on this occasion, make sure you plan ahead by working out when your next oil change is due. Oil changes are due based on mileage or time – whichever comes first. Make a note on your calendar when your next oil change is due – that way you won’t forget!
